We are still on the topic of Faith and today, we will be answering the question “is it enough to stop at having faith? Is there something more we must do?” Come along with us to find out.

The Bible is a wonderful book full of HISTORY— HIS STORY. From the Bible, we can see how God related to people of various platforms and dispensations. We come to appreciate that God had two main covenants. The Old Covenant or Testament as against the New Covenant or Testament.

The characteristic nature of how salvation or deliverance came in the Old Testament was works.

Even though works was the pivot of that covenant, faith was still needed because they didn’t see God and hence needed faith to make Him visible. But the position of faith came mostly after Works.

Because of the demand for Works, God had to give them a lot of commandments to follow, over three hundred of them. They could only be right with GOD by keeping all these commandments. The commandments were so detailed and hence it was not possible for man to keep the commandments. Therefore, man could never please God or stand right with God. There were a handful who could please God like Daniel by their works. All these I have said is gotten from Romans 5:12-20.

Now one major disadvantage of this procedure is stated in James 2:10.

“For whoever shall keep the whole law, and yet stumble in one point, he is guilty of all.” James 2:10 NKJV

And that is it, keep all or be guilty of all.

The good news is that, this was a temporal way. Other than that, we would be buying bulls and lambs for offering in our time.

A good news appeared two thousand years ago which changed things for the good. Glory be to God! This good news was the appearing, the death and the burial of our Lord Jesus Christ. Now what made God stick to that temporal covenant was because of the demand of Divine justice which requested for the death of man. Now Jesus came as that offering, standing as a man and dying as a man. By this act, He had the right to abolish that old Law and create in Himself a new Law or Testament or Covenant and hence a New man according to Ephesians 2:15

“having abolished in His flesh the enmity, that is, the law of commandments contained in ordinances, so as to create in Himself one new man from the two, thus making peace,” Ephesians 2:15 NKJV

By this Covenant, Jesus did the Work that man was supposed to do thereby relegating Works to the background so that salvation came through Faith in Christ and not by the works of the Law according to Galatians 2:16

“knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law but by faith in Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Christ Jesus, that we might be justified by faith in Christ and not by the works of the law; for by the works of the law no flesh shall be justified.” Galatians 2:16 NKJV

Now the conclusion of the matter is this; Faith and Works has been the way of the God who is the same yesterday, today and forever. Just that the position of them in the old and new covenant differs.

In the New covenant, we have Faith first, then we Work in proportion to our Faith so that even the Works we do, are only in Proportion to our Faith.

Quote of the week

”That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, concerning the Word of life— the life was manifested, and we have seen, and bear witness, and declare to you that eternal life which was with the Father and was manifested to us— that which we have seen and heard we declare to you, that you also may have fellowship with us; and truly our fellowship is with the Father and with His Son Jesus Christ. And these things we write to you that your joy may be full.”
