Hello, thank you for joining us this week. I hope you have been following our conversation we are still on Christian growth series. And today, we continue with our series on priesthood. Our very first episode for this month was on priesthood and last week, we looked at altars and what they are.
This week we are going to look at activating the Altar.
Why Altars
In a previous post we established that, the believer is the Lord’s altar. By altar, I mean an access point into our realm. You see, God cannot do anything here on earth if He is not invited by man. This is because He has given the earth to man. Many times, people ask the question that, “if God is good, why then is there so much evil?” The reason is this, God handed over the earth to man. If as a designer, I design new leather shoes of excellent quality for official purposes and I handed it to you, a customer, and you decide to offer it to a friend, who decides to use it as sports shoes. If I should find your friend one day, on a soccer field kicking a ball and tackling with it, would I have the right to take them from him? Absolutely not! My only option would be to warn you of the inevitable fate of those shoes. I could also tell you to take it from the friend and bring it back for fixing. But I would have no right to take it from your friend.
Similarly, God created the earth and handed it to man.
“The heaven, even the heavens, are the LORD’s; But the earth He has given to the children of men.”
Psalm 115:16

Man by his own devices, handed over that God given authority to the enemy of God, the devil, who now wreaks havoc over the earth. As orderly and systematic as God is, you would never have heard of flooding or a natural disaster till the earth was filled with sin and death. These things are not acts of God as many refer to them. They are the results of a sick and corrupted creation that needs to be saved. Now men need to call on the original creator and give Him access back in here to make it right.
Now let’s look at how to make an altar active.
Activating Altars
Not all altars are active. Altars can be inactive and or broken down but they made be rebuilt. In Elijah’s contest with the prophets of Baal, “And he repaired the altar of the LORD that was broken down.” (1 Kings 18: 30) After the repair, he sacrificed on it, activating the altar.
That is how an altar is activated, sacrifice.
One thing that we see usually in association with altars is a sacrifice. Often in scripture, when an altar is built, sacrifices are burnt on it. The first mention of an altar in the Bible showed Noah making sacrifices after the flood, in thanksgiving.
“Then Noah built an altar to the LORD, and took of every clean animal and of every clean bird, and offered burnt offerings on the altar.”
Also in the Old Testament, as the sanctuary was built, there were instructions given for the construction of altars followed by the command to offer sacrifices on it.
“You shall build with whole stones the altar of the LORD your God, and offer burnt offerings on it to the LORD your God.”
At the dedication of the sanctuary, sacrifices were made on altars to activate it and to maintain them. When the tabernacle had been completed, the priests made a sacrifice and sprinkled the blood all over the sanctuary including the ark of the covenant. This gave God the legal permission to be in the sanctuary and to live amongst the Israelites as their God.

Pagans know this well. This is why when they need an intervention in their lives from a certain spirit, they offer sacrifices at the altar of that spirit or god according its specifications. All through the Bible, we see God Almighty make His specifications for sacrifices clear. This is a spiritual law all spirits work by. In the Old Testament, He required bulls, lambs or pigeons according to the specific situation. Sometimes, any was allowed. At other times, a specific requirement was made.
In the New Testament, we see a turn of events by the death of Jesus and now the requirement of the sacrifice is… YOU!
Yeah, you again. You are the priest. You are the Altar. You are the sacrifice upon your altar.
You need to understand the significance and application of this truth. In our families, if we will think back, we will recognize patterns or events that are consistently occurring. These things are happening because an altar has been activated. Meaning that there is another spirit at work in your family other than the Holy Spirit of God and is causing these things to happen. It is good news that you are the altar and the sacrifice for the Almighty God. Do you know why? Because then it means that you can do something about the unfortunate events happening on your family. Are you tired of the heritage of poverty you hail from? Are you frustrated by the inheritance of sexual perversion such that even you are entangled with pornography Addiction? God wants to deliver you from the clutches of the evil one and He can do it if you, His access point, allows Him in.
