As established in our last post, our topic of the month Is the help system. I’m super excited about this series so let’s get going…
I want to introduce to you an aspect of God that many of us are not familiar with. We have known Him as healer, provider, our righteousness, our protector and on and on. The names of God are numerous and beautiful because each of them reveals an aspect of the God we worship. The aspect of God I want to introduce you to is the Lord as our help.

As I sat in class that day, hearing the lecturers voice drone on and on, my heart got depressed further and further. I couldn’t shake it off. It was a new semester, in between summer and autumn – the weather was good. Everyone was excited about the new academic year because it meant we were getting closer to our goal – Graduation! But for me, the new semester, the very first week, started with two big issues – a very personal one and a not so personal but important one. My heart was sad and heavy. I was at a loss as to what to do and yet i smiled brightly to everyone around such that no one, not even my close friends, could sense the turmoil that was churning within me.
Then i heard that voice somewhere within, “Why are you cast down, O my soul? …Hope in God; For I shall yet praise Him…” I knew this was a scripture, yet I couldn’t remember the full verse, neither did I know the reference. So I began to search and I found it:
“Why are you cast down, O my soul? And why are you disquieted within me? Hope in God; For I shall yet praise Him, The help of my countenance and my God.”
Psalms 42:11 NKJV
There, I began to encounter the God of Help, my helper – Jehovah Ezer. I have never seen or heard any one call Him that but In that moment and in that semester, He was that to me. That semester was to be like the worst semester I had ever had.

THE HELP SYSTEM
Ezer means ‘help’ in the Hebrew as rendered in Psalm 121. ‘Help’ Is a basic word that is used in every day. It means ‘to give assistance or support to’. When it Is used, It indicates one thing, the one asking for help is weak or Inadequate to carry out the task at hand. And so he is inviting one who Is as good as himself or even better to join In to finish the task. When we ask for help, we don’t stop the task, nope. You make space instead for the one who you called to assist you and you do it together.
There Is an inherent weakness in man such that mere humans cannot function optimally without external spiritual help. In our days, humans have thought themselves to be all-sufficient, multitaskers who never need any kind of help. Such people always get help whether they realize it or not. Humans were created to live in collaboration with the spirit world and that Is why we are spirit beings using our mortal bodies to colonize the earth on behalf of the spiritual kingdom we belong to. Man always needs help. The weakness of man can only be overcome by spiritual help. This is why God set up the Help System to assist His kingdom citizens on earth. Without Him, we cannot.
The sweet Psalmist once sang,
“I will lift up my eyes to the hills— From whence comes my help?”
Psalms 121:1 NJKV
To which he receives the understanding,
“My help comes from the LORD, Who made heaven and earth.”
Psalms 121:2 NKJV
Think about that. Meditate on it. Your help, your assistance, your support system comes from the Lord, the creator of all things. That means that His influence is over all things and if He had to change something to assist you, He can do it. The Help System that Is at work on our behalf as believers is adequate for us to receive help anytime we need. It is adequate to assist us to live out the purposes of our lives.

The help system of the Kingdom of God is designed to assist any kingdom citizen extend and establish the Kingdom agenda. Therefore, to extensively experience and benefit from the help system of the Kingdom, you need to be on a kingdom mission. But this Is available to all who call upon God to help. The Help System, to put it simply, is made up of;
- God the Father
- God the Son
- God the Holy Spirit
- Angelic host
- Grace
- Mercy
Did you consider the list I made there? It should excite you because you have all of the Godhead in your camp. You’ve got the angelic host ready to come and do their bidding, assisting you in unseen ways that you think is a coincidence. Do you remember that day that you were running late and you were sure that bus had left you, only for you to get there and realize that the bus was also delayed? Who do you think delayed the bus driver just so you could be on board? Angels! It could be something as normal as that or magnificent as fighting battles on your behalf as you pray.
If you have not encountered Grace & Mercy, you would not be a believer. They are very important elements in the Help System – working on our behalf to not just escape judgement but also to receive strength not to commit blunders again.

ACTIVATING THE HELP SYSTEM
From that day in class, I encountered one aspect of the Help System – the help of my countenance. Your countenance can be simply put as your mood or emotion. In that place of heaviness, God met me with help as I quietly cried out, ‘Help me’. He came and comforted me, spoke lovingly and relieved my heart. That is only an aspect of this Help I am talking about. There is also the help of deliverance. The book of Exodus is started with the introduction of a people toiling and oppressed. Do you know how these people activated the help System?
“Now it happened in the process of time that the king of Egypt died. Then the children of Israel groaned because of the bondage, and they cried out; and their cry came up to God because of the bondage. So God heard their groaning, and God remembered His covenant with Abraham, with Isaac, and with Jacob. And God looked upon the children of Israel, and God acknowledged them.”
Exodus 2:23-25 NKJV
They groaned. They cried. Notice that they did not exactly groan or cry out to the Lord, but It went to the Lord and it was acknowledged. Why? Because these people were in covenant with God. They were Kingdom citizens per their birthright as descendants of Abraham and by that right, the Help System was activated. Crying out to the Lord for help is one of the many ways to activate the Help System
“For “whoever calls on the name of the LORD shall be saved.”” Romans 10:13 NKJV
There is a help system that is available for us, guys. We are qualified to access it because we are citizens of the Kingdom of God and we have a greater covenant than the Israelites.
We are not alone. We are not left to our own devices to fend For ourselves. We have real and authentic help coming straight from the throne room of God. Don’t choose to walk alone. You need help. Ask for it.
