Isn’t it always great to have some help? To have somebody to share the load with?
Even when we can manage it on our own, a little help will never be turned away. Because help just makes things a whole lot easier, doesn’t it?

Well then, am I not glad to share with you today, that you are helped! But by who? The LORD Almighty himself. It baffles me how God in all His majesty is content fitting into the position of simply being my help, but he is! I don’t know about you, but I am excited for me.
You don’t know why? Let me explain this to you. Let’s face the facts; in as much as we enjoy help, we are not always too pleased to be the ones on the helping end. Especially when it demands a lot of our time and effort, and is too constant for our liking.
So imagine having help in someone that cannot be strained. Someone that will not get tired no matter how many times they have to offer you help. Imagine having help in an infinite source, a source that never wavers, a source that is ever present, a source that is too faithful to fail. But above all a source that actually wants to be your help? In Isaiah 41:10, God basically says to us, don’t worry, I’ll help you! This is all that our Lord is and more.
For this reason, my heart sings with the Psalmist:
“I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the LORD, which made heaven and earth. He will not suffer thy foot to be moved: he that keepeth thee will not slumber. Behold, He that keepeth Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep. The LORD is thy keeper: the LORD is thy shade upon thy right hand. The sun shall not smite thee by day, nor the moon by night.”
Psalm 121:1-6 KJV.
And even more, to think that God was already helping man even before man existed. Just look at how he created everything in Genesis 1 that was essential to man’s survival before creating man. God has occupied the position of Helper to men from the very onset.
The help of God is real and at our disposal. Everything that God is, is for the benefit of man, so that man may be helped. He is the I AM so that He can be everything you need. Your Provider, your Comforter, the One who wars on your behalf, the One who orders your steps, the One who heals you, the One who helps you walk in victory, the One who upholds you with His right arm.
An ever-present help not just in the big but also in the small moments of help when we need it. If we look carefully, we can recognize all the little breadcrumbs all over our life that has been God helping us, one moment at a time.
The help of God is what fills our valleys with water without wind or rain (2 Kings 3:17). The help of God is why even if we fall, we arise to shine. The help of God is the hand behind the scenes like in the book of Esther, laying out the way, leading you by light and recalibrating your steps when you miss it. Even when in your eyes, you may just be living out your regular day to day life, God is the help, like an event organizer at a program, observing, moving, picking you up, rearranging, etc. Getting busy about establishing the event called your life.
How blessed we are that the God of the universe is called to our side, to assist us, to strengthen us, to help us up when we fall, to steady us as we try to walk again, to hold our hands, to encourage us, to empower us!
Don’t you see God’s help in every moment his strength is made whole in your many many weaknesses. Dont you see his help in how the devil no matter what he throws cannot pass a certain threshold with you because even his deeds have to filter through the hands of your Father before they can reach you?
Job was walking around with a hedge of fire around him he didn’t even know about (Job 1:10). God has been helping us in ways we cannot even fathom. A few hours a day, you’re as good as dead, fast asleep with no awareness of what goes on around you but you wake up to the morning each day. You are helped! Waking up with breath in your lungs is no coincidence or routine. We could have only come this far by His help. If it had not been for the Lord on our side!
But what makes me most grateful for the help of God is, I actually need help! Man needs help.
“I know, O Lord, that the way of man is not in himself, that it is not in man who walks to direct his own steps” Jeremiah 10:23 NKJV.
Man was never created to be independent of God. No product can know itself above the manufacturer’s knowledge. Should anything go wrong, you can only revert to the help of the manufacturer. This is because, the manufacturer makes his product for a reason and to fulfill a particular purpose. Hence only he can best help the product live and function successfully. God is the source of man and hence the ultimate source of help to man. No one knows a man more thoroughly than God.
It took the hands of God for man to exist. Then it took the breath of God for man to come alive. It took the death of God for man to be redeemed. And when we become new creations bestowed with the life of Christ, it takes the help of the Holy Spirit to build us up in stature to acquire the status reserved for those who have been translated into the office of Christ.
From Jeremiah 10:23 quoted above, there is no inherent ability in man to help himself. Man was created to need help. When God said to Adam, I will make a help mate suitable unto you, it was in recognition of the fact that from the very onset of creation, man needed help.
Even more so, as believers, we need help because we are born again by the power that raised Christ from the dead and the new life we live is the Life of Christ. Galatians 2:20 NKJV. You cannot successfully live a life that has been bestowed upon you without the help of the original owner.
“I am the vine. You are the branches. He who abides in Me and I in him, will bear much fruit. For apart from Me, you are able to do nothing.”
John 15:5 NKJV
God never intended us to walk this journey called life alone, No. His intent has always been to walk hand in hand with us, assisting us along the way. Without his help, we can do nothing. Like a plant uprooted from soil, we wither. Like a fish separated from water we struggle. As soon as you take away what helps you exist, struggle is inevitable. It is in God man finds the elements to thrive. By strength shall no man prevail because we simply were not made that way.
You can try your best outside God’s help but you can only be the best by relying on His help. The Psalmist talks about how a man’s steps are of the Lord and hence no man can by himself figure out his own way (Psalm 20:24). He then goes on to specifically clarify in Psalm 37:23 that a good man is one whose steps are ordered by the Lord. So although a man’s steps are of the Lord, you become a good man when you actually allow for your steps to be ordered by the Lord.
‘Good man’ as used here is geber in Hebrew meaning a man of men, the best of his kind, a strong warrior. In those days, a good soldier was one who could march in perfect step with his leader. Meaning that all it took to be a good soldier was your ability to adequately rely on the help of your master. This scripture therefore basically means that you are only the highest version of yourself you can be when God orders your steps. You only have to walk in the steps he has established. You only have to walk in help.
Man was created to need help but even better, God is the helper of man. Apart from him we can do nothing. It is therefore prudent that we have knowledge on the help of God and how it looks like in our lives. Hence in the subsequent weeks, we will be going deeper and gaining further understanding about the Help of God available to us. Stay tuned.
