Good to see that you joined me today. I hope you have been read the part one of this topic. If you haven’t, go catch up and join us soon. We have been talking about The Preeminent One, Jesus. We explained previously what the meaning of ‘preeminent’ is. It means ‘first’, ‘supreme’ and ‘outstanding’. We have been looking at why He is preeminent above all else and four reasons have been already been established,

1. HE IS THE IMAGE OF THE INVISIBLE GOD.
2. IN HIM ALL THINGS CONSIST
3. HE IS THE HEAD OF THE BODY, THE CHURCH
4. HE IS THE BEGINNING

Moving on to …

5. THE FIRSTBORN OVER ALL CREATION
At the mention of Firstborn, most of us would start thinking of our older siblings or ourselves if we are the firstborns. These are people who were opened up our mother’s womb. They are respected in our households because they are the oldest amongst the kids. Well, the word is not used in that respect or to imply that Jesus was the first to be created amongst God’s creation. Nope. This word ‘firstborn’ is used here much in the same way as ‘preeminent’. Therefore, it also means ‘first’ or ‘supreme’. The New Living Translation renders Colossians‬ ‭1:15‬ as: “Christ is the visible image of the invisible God. He existed before anything was created and is supreme over all creation,”‬‬‬‬‬‬

Jesus is above all creation and creatures, visible and invisible. He is not a created one but the creator. He is distinguished above all created things. There is only one creator of the World – God. And His creation was intentional and carefully planned. In order for us not to be lost as to clearly understand his meaning, the Apostle begins to tell us what exactly he means by Jesus being the Supreme Being over the earth.

a.ＦＯＲ　ＢＹ　ＨＩＭ　ＡＬＬ　ＴＨＩＮＧＳ　ＷＥＲＥ　ＣＲＥＡＴＥＤ： You may believe it or you may not but this is God’s truth. The earth and the planets of the universe with their galaxies were designed and created by God. In fact, John the beloved states emphatically that, “…without Him nothing was made that was made.” (John‬ ‭1:3‬ ‭NKJV). None at all‬‬. Now is the inventor of a new machine at the same level with his creation? Of course not. It would be absurd to think even for a moment that Karl Benz who invented cars in 1885 is remotely on the same level as his cars. He is hailed as the inventor of cars and given the due respect. He knew all the intricacies and capabilities of his cars. If they became faulty, you had to return the car to him or to his trained men for the car to be fixed. He is superior just as Jesus is the superior over this world and is well capable of controlling it. As things are spiraling and out of control now, He knows exactly what needs to be done. ‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬

One will then ask, “Well, if He knows all about what is going on and the solution to this mess, why is He not fixing it?” Good question. Just as Karl Benz sold the cars he made and gave them to be controlled and used by his customers, the earth was given to us men to control and take care of. Now if a buyer decides to give his car to a fellow who abuses and ruins the car, what can Mr. Benz do about it? Nothing much. He could advise the proper use of the car or maintenance but until it is brought back to him, under his control his hands are tied. When God created the world, He handed over the earth and all that is in it to man. Unfortunately, it has been given into wrong hands and he has mangled and destroyed our ‘car’. Our only hope of salvation and restoration is therefore to return to the manufacturer and ask for help. The Lord has an answer to the current situation of the world. He holds the answer to this Coronavirus pandemic sweeping across nations. And I daresay, that the Church has the answer as well. More on that later.

b. …For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers… Colossians 1:16 NKJV

The visible and invisible realm were also created by Him. Folks, there is an invisible realm that we cannot perceive with our bodily senses. I am not talking about the wind or viruses and bacteria although those cannot be seen as well. I am talking about a very real world that is not in a separate place but all around us. This world is made up of non-human beings, of different shapes and sizes with various functions and ranks of power. If you were born in the African world I’m sure you would have a certain awareness of that world due to superstition. But even in the New Testament, the Apostles were very sensitive to this realm around us. The Apostle Paul gave a certain directive because of some of these beings. “For this reason the woman ought to have a symbol of authority on her head, because of the angels.”I Corinthians‬ ‭11:10‬ ‭NKJV‬‬ ‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬
These beings have rankings – thrones, dominions, principalities and powers. There are those that belong to our Kingdom – the Kingdom of God and to the enemy’s. But whether enemy or friend, they were all created by God. Therefore, Jesus has supreme headship over them. This is why believers have authority over them. We have been given the authority of the Supreme Head and so in His name, they will do our bidding whether they like it or not.

c. ＡＬＬ　ＴＨＩＮＧＳ　ＷＥＲＥ　ＣＲＥＡＴＥＤ　ＴＨＲＯＵＧＨ　ＨＩＭ　ＡＮＤ　ＦＯＲ　ＨＩＭ
Sweetheart, you were created through Jesus and for Jesus. There was nothing that was made without Him. In the book of beginnings, the Bible declares that whilst the world was in chaos as it is no[w, the Spirit of God sent forth His Word and brought forth new things. Even man who was fashioned wIth God’s own hands was first brought forth by the Word of God’s mouth as He said, “Let us make man in our own image…”. Because of this fact, that is why your purpose is found in Jesus. Even the purpose of the animals and plants and landscapes are only truly revealed in Jesus. By God’s divine wisdom, He has placed bits of Himself in His creation. It is no wonder that our forefathers worshipped and many tribes of the world still worship the created things because they saw hints of the greatness of the Creator in them. The nature of water could explain the Trinity to you. The nature of fire explains the fierceness of God’s nature. The lion depicts His strength and His Lordship and even the gentle lamb shows up His humility and meekness. The full potential of creation will only be released when it is totally under control of God. Every created thing responds and functions maximally in the hands of the manufacturer. Therefore, in the millennium and eternity when Christ takes up His rulership, the order of creation as we know it will drastically change. Why? Because the King is on His Throne.

““The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb, The leopard shall lie down with the young goat, The calf and the young lion and the fatling together; And a little child shall lead them. The cow and the bear shall graze; Their young ones shall lie down together; And the lion shall eat straw like the ox. The nursing child shall play by the cobra’s hole, And the weaned child shall put his hand in the viper’s den.” Isaiah‬ ‭11:6-8‬ ‭NKJV‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬

It is for these reasons that He is the preeminent one. No-one is compared to Him in His splendor. None, None at all. And at His name, all creation, visible and invisible, thrones, dominions, principalities and powers bow down in submission. Can you help but submit to the Supreme one? You can willingly do it now or you will be forced to do it later. Choose now, it’s easier and more fun, full of purpose.
