April! A month always full of promises. A time of dancing and singing and the month of Easter. This month is dedicated to revisiting the very basics of our faith. Now let’s start at the very beginning:
Mary did you know that your baby boy would one day walk on water?
Mary did you know that your baby boy would save our sons and daughters?
Did you know that your baby boy has come to make you new?
This child that you’ve delivered, will soon deliver you
Mary did you know that your baby boy is Lord of all creation?
Mary did you know that your baby boy would one day rule the nations?
Did you know that your baby boy is heaven’s perfect lamb?
That sleeping child you’re holding is the great I am

A few verses from a popular Christmas song. Yeah I know that it is not yet Christmas though it’s nearly Easter. And Easter is as good a time as any to tell the story of the birth of Christ. The lyrics of the song “Mary, did you know?” brings to my realization the reality of Mary’s situation. How it must have been for a young woman, some say she was only a teenager, to carry a child out of wedlock. In our day and age, thousands of people do it and are fine. Now it seems to be a normal thing, almost a trend, to be pregnant out of wedlock. But in Mary’s case, it was a taboo, an abomination and a sin punishable by death. By her engagement to righteous Joseph who covered her, she was able to escape death. I wonder if, as the song goes, Mary was aware of the great feats her son would accomplish. She was aware that this was destiny Child, God’s child to save mankind but to what extent? This baby she carried would one day defeat death itself. He would restore mankind to his creator. One day, every knee will bow down to Him in reverence and submission.
THE CONCEPTION OF GOD

The conception of Jesus is phenomenon that boggles people’s minds. Some refuse to believe the Bible’s account as it happened. Others believe it as it is, still others think it’s a great metaphor of some kind. The unbelief is largely because what happened to Mary had never, has never and will never happen to a person. But actually what happened to Mary happens to most believers on a different level. I have termed what occurred “Supernatural Insemination”. If there is artificial insemination, can there not be a supernatural insemination? If man can create a child without sexual intercourse, can God not do that or even greater? With this argument, the often met question about Jesus’ birth “If Jesus is God’s son, who is God’s wife?” is answered. If a man can pay a female to have his child without having sex with her then God can do even better. Artificial insemination is done in a couple of ways using the husband’s sperm or a donor sperm. The egg can be harvested and the sperm introduced to it in a petri-dish or test tube or the sperm is directly inserted in the womb to swim up to meet the egg. Either ways, it is without intercourse, the couple may not even know one another.
Mary’s supernatural insemination occurred as announced by the Angel Gabriel, “And the angel answered and said to her, “ The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Highest will overshadow you; therefore, also, that Holy One who is to be born will be called the Son of God.”Luke 1:35 NKJV
The Spirit of God enveloped Mary and placed His seed in her to fuse with her egg and created Jesus, Son of The Most High. It is important it was the seed of God that was inseminated and not the seed of man because then Jesus would have been as any human.
THE SEED OF GOD

The word ‘sperm’ originates from the Greek Word ‘sperma’ which means ‘seed’. So just as a flowering plant has seeds, the man also has seeds which we call sperms. For every procreation, there is a seed involved. The seed bears the DNA and characteristic of the father. Therefore, for Jesus to bear God’s DNA and have His characteristics, He had to be born of God’s seed. It is this important detail that qualified Him to die for us. It qualified Him to be holy from conception whereas ordinary men, like you and I, born of the seed of a mere man had sinful blood from the beginning. Our blood is not acceptable beofre God to pay the sin of mankind. He would rather have the blood of an innocent lamb than ours. Therefore, the seed of God is essential.

Now after the work of Jesus, the seed of God can be found easily. Where? In me. In you (if you believe in Jesus). How is that?
“having been born again, not of corruptible seed but incorruptible, through the word of God which lives and abides forever,” I Peter 1:23 NKJV
Every born again believer of Jesus has in him the seed of God. It came by the word of God which we believed. It is for this reason that now we are sons of God.
THE BODY OF MAN
Jesus also needed a physical human body to interact with the earth. He needed to be one of us in order to qualify to pay the ransom for us. The law is simple: Man sins, Man pays. Righteous blood for sinful blood.
The trick in the law is that, no man, none at all, is righteous to rectify what has gone wrong. Therefore, in our plight, God Himself put his seed in a young lady to qualify for
1. The righteous requirement of the law and
2. The man pay for the debt.
If any of these details had not been taken care of, then Jesus would never have qualified to be the ransom for our sin. We would still be destitute and lost, without God and without hope in our world. I wonder if Mary knew that all these laws and requirement were in play for her son to be born. Was she remotely aware of the powerful forces that were in battle around her when her child was being birthed?
THE OVERSHADOWING
I believe the overshadowing experience Mary had to conceive Jesus is a common place occurrence albeit not in such a physical manifestation. You see, as we fellowship with the Spirit of God, He deposits in us visions and dreams and projects to carry out for the Kingdom. As we grow closer and are enveloped by Him, He begins to impress upon our hearts things that begin to bloom and flesh out and with time, as nurtured by His continual presence, it grows into amazing feats for the Kingdom. These are ‘Jesus’ that was conceived in our spiritual womb by the supernatural insemination of the Holy Spirit. It is no wonder that many of us have dreams of being pregnant or prophetic words of the ‘child’ we have conceived by the Spirit. Just as Mary was prophesied over by Elizabeth over her ‘Jesus’, many of us have been too or will be. But it requires time for the gestational period to manifest. Physical nine months is not comparable to spiritual nine months. It may be longer or shorter. But I can assure you that, as you pursue God daily, your ‘Jesus’ will be born and he will be a wonder and glorious addition to the Kingdom of God. You may not recognize that yet but that’s how ministries are born. That’s how foundations and missions were founded. I wonder if they all knew that their ‘Jesus’ would save lives.
