Growing up, I’ve always had this keen sense of purpose. I remember times as a young girl when I laid supine on my bed looking at the ceiling. Not really looking at it but rather looking through it and asking myself, ”What is life all about?” I would look into the skies at the stars wondering. Many times, the wonderings of my heart and my mind would be so deep that I would get scared and force myself out of the reverie. Other times, I would get to thinking “Why was i born a Ghanaian? Why would the Lord place me in this country and not in Zambia? Why was i born to these specific parents and not to any other else?” I mean if different people apart from my parents bore me, I wouldn’t be me. I would be someone else. I wouldn’t exist. There was actually a time i asked a friend that question, “why were you born Ghanaian and not American?” He had never thought about it. I think this is an important question we need to ask ourselves.

Have you had such questions ringing through your head and your heart? During my musings, I always experienced this certainty that there is a purpose for it. God was not tossing lots when He was selecting parents or countries for us. It is not by chance that I was born in Africa at this time and age in the history of man and of the universe. Is life all about being born, getting education, then get a good job, get married, have some kids who would bear your name and image then die? IS THAT ALL THERE IS TO YOUR LIFE? Today, my purpose in writing this blog is to make you aware that there is a purpose to your life and mine.

WHAT IS PURPOSE?
Purpose is defined by the Merriam Webster Dictionary to be, “Something set up as an object or end to be attained”. Every manufacturer creates a product to the end that it would achieve something. In Junior High School, we had a project to create and design something that would solve a specific problem. It was called the ‘Design & Make Portfolio’. Now in this project, you had to come up with a problem, then you had to give a solution. Your solution must be the perfect fix for the problem. Included in our portfolio would be other possible solutions and why they would not work. You had to bring out the merits and defects of your possible solutions and champion your real solution to be the best.

Most manufacturers go through that process in order to come up with the best solution. They analyse its merits and defects and address them even before they get on the market. There always has to be a problem that needs to be fixed or dealt with for a product to be made. I, therefore submit to you, that in God’s agenda, we, YOU & I, are the solution to problems He wants solved on earth. God did not create you to occupy space on earth. He would have gone for trees to beautify the earth or better still the waters which have the capacity to occupy much space. No! No! NO! If you are here on earth, there is an issue God needs you to deal with. You are His perfect solution to deal with that.

Now then, you may ask, “What Purpose is that?” That is a good question. The late Myles Munroe stated, “When purpose is not known, abuse in inevitable.” I would also add that when purpose is ignored, abuse and consequent destruction is inevitable. I’m sure most of us would relate to having cooked something apart from rice in a rice cooker. Back in school, we used to cook all kinds of stews and soups, even steaming meat, in our rice cookers. On days we had a major party, we collected as many rice cookers we could find and made jollof rice. I guess most students have had the experience of the rice cooker going off in the middle of the cook. Regardless of the stirring or the maneuvers to keep the power knob at ‘on’, it snaps back to ‘off’. What do we do then? We get a folded piece of paper or a slipper (this is pure abuse) or whatever would ensure the power knob stays at ‘on’. Inevitably, the rice cooker gets spoilt. It can neither stay at ‘on’ nor ‘off’. It becomes useless till it is repaired.

The way to find the purpose of a product is, it may sound a little bit cliched but, “Read the owner’s manual!” It was written by the manufacturer to the user on how his product should be used for maximum efficiency. We can only dream of finding the purpose for which God made us if we do not read the bible – God’s manual. I’m not talking about an occasional glance through or percusory scroll through it. I’m talking about meticulous search through the scriptures. But unlike going through the manual, you get to have The Manufacturer Himself going through with you. Studying the Bible will not necessarily let you know your specific purpose but rather a relationship with the manufacturer is what will get you there.

As stated above, my purpose today is to make you aware that there is a purpose to your life. Guys, there is a purpose to your life! I emphasize this because I have come to realise that when someone has this awareness of specialty and uniqueness, he behaves differently. A queen walks differently from her servants, with her head held high. She behaves like a queen, knowing her place and behaving accordingly. When we have this sense of purpose, we will not behave in any uncomely manner. When a young lady walks with an awareness of her purpose, she will not be enticed to live in fornication. When I know that the Lord has called me into academia, I will not get involved in drugs. When I see drugs heading my way, I will turn tail and run for my dear purpose given me. Scripture says, “A prudent man foresees evil and hides himself, But the simple pass on and are punished.” ‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭22:3‬ ‭NKJV‬‬ When i have searched through scripture with Jesus, and He has told me that my eyes belong to Him, I begin to consider the movies e allow myself to watch.

Purpose guides my walk. Purpose guides my eating and drinking. Purpose drives my sexuality. Purpose guides my attitude towards life. When you are aware and totally convinced that you are on earth for a purpose, suicide will not be a temptation. Guys, there are people whose lives are linked with ours. You are the perfect piece of the puzzle the next person needs to also fulfill his purpose. God has given us as gifts to our nations and to enrich the lives of the people around us. There are people for whom we must remain steadfast on our course. We are all interconnected no matter how small the link.

Child of God, you are special. You are unique. There is none like you on earth, before you nor after you. You are God’s masterepiece created to solve a problem in this age and time. You cannot be a mistake. You are specially woven for such a time as this. Live your life daily knowing that you are God’s solution. You are a gift to the people around you.
