Our conversation continues with this fourth blog on intimacy. If you have missed any of them, kindly refer to our previous posts on Intimacy and the building blocks of Intimacy – TIME & COMMUNICATION.

Imagine sitting in your daily mode of transportation and you begin to see the plans of God for your nation. Or you are having lunch when you find yourself in a place you have never been before and hear things that are said behind closed doors. You could be reading the Word and the Lord will reveal something you have never seen or heard being preached. These are just examples of secrets God shares. I call them God-secrets.

GOD-SECRETS

God-Secrets are things that God reveals to us or things that have always been there but He unveils them to us. They could be in the form of dreams or visions or a word of Knowledge or Wisdom or even revelation from the written word.

“‘Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know.’”‭‬‬ Jeremiah 33:3‬‬‬‬

God-Secrets are great and mighty things we do not know of. Someone may wonder, “What makes us think we can get into God’s secret?” The Holy Spirit!‬‬‬‬

THE SPIRIT IN US

We need to remind ourselves of the fact that as believers, we have the Spirit of Jesus living in us. When Jesus was about to physically leave the scene, He told His disciples that it is expedient or to their advantage that He goes (John 16:7). This was because the Holy Spirit would come to us, living in us and letting us into the mind of God.

“But as it is written: “Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, Nor have entered into the heart of man The things which God has prepared for those who love Him.” But God has revealed them to us through His Spirit. For the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God. For what man knows the things of a man except the spirit of the man which is in him? Even so no one knows the things of God except the Spirit of God. Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might know the things that have been freely given to us by God.” I Corinthians‬ ‭2:9-12‬ ‭NKJV‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬

The Holy Spirit is the deposit of God in us. Through Him we are able to access all that God has given to us in Jesus. He is the agency responsible for conveying the secrets of God. He is the one who knows the mind of God, the heart of God and the will of God in all things. Because this same Spirit lives in us, He is able to let us into the mind and the heart of God. Without Him, we cannot have access to the Godhead. He is the representative of the Godhead at work on earth in this age. This is why Jesus placed such importance on His coming. We need Him in every way especially in this area of drawing to the Father.

It is such a beautiful experience when the Holy Spirit opens up things unknown to you and you begin to see an aspect of God you never knew; a truth in the Word that never occurred to you. How then do we enter into this level of God and His secrets? I will address two basic ways of engaging the Holy Spirit; speaking in tongues and worshipping.

SPEAKING IN TONGUES

“For he who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God, for no one understands him; however, in the spirit he speaks mysteries.

For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays, but my understanding is unfruitful.”

‭‭I Corinthians‬ ‭14:2, 14‬ ‭NKJV‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬

Tongue speaking is an evidence of the baptism of the Spirit of God. It is the Holy Spirit enabling us to communicate with the Father in a way that is beyond our ability to communicate. It lifts us to speak the language of God, on His frequency. No power of darkness can tune in to this frequency. It’s coded. As we speak in tongues, though the language is naturally unknown to us, we are speaking mysteries, hidden things in the Spirit. As we speak in tongues, our spirit is active, he is having an interaction with the Spirit of God. Our spirit is open to hear that which the Lord wants to reveal to us. Speaking in tongues allows our spirit to enter easily into the spirit realm where things are clearer. Not only that but a constant practice of this spiritual exercise helps heighten our sensitivity to the Holy Spirit throughout the day. You can hear Him say, “Son, don’t take that vehicle”, or “give this child 10 cedis”.

I encourage us to spend more time praying in tongues in our prayer time than making requests. There is nothing wrong with making a request. He is our Father and He loves to give to us. But because He is our Father, He also understands what we need more than we do. You could be praying fervently for something you need so much and the Lord would interrupt and say pray for something else instead. That is what you need.

“But you, beloved, building yourselves up on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit,”

‭‭Jude‬ ‭1:20‬ ‭NKJV‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬

Speaking in tongues builds strength and endurance in our spirit as doing a cardio exercise builds our physical strength and endurance. It is the doorway to the limitless power and glory granted us in Jesus.

WORSHIPPING

“And do not be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation; but be filled with the Spirit, speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord,”

‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭5:18-19‬ ‭NKJV‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬

In this scripture, Paul gives us a way to be filled and to continue being filled with Spirit – singing and making melody to the Lord. Ministering to the Lord in songs of praise and worship is a powerful way of entering the Lord’s heart. As the popular scripture says, the Lord inhabits in the praise of His people (Psalm 22:3). There is something about declaring the goodness and wonder of the Lord that draws us to Him and Him to us. His attention is enraptured by our praises. His heart becomes so full that He begins to speak His heart to us. He begins to reveal more of Himself to us.

We do not need a specific time set out for worship, though that would help for discipline and time management purposes. But In the time you walk to the bus station or spend in transportation daily, you can worship the Lord. Your car can be your ‘War Room’ and rush-hour, your ‘Jesus Time’. We can make worship and praise a lifestyle that goes with us everywhere.

MORE TO BE REVEALED

Personally, I do not think that the Apostle Paul exhausted all that is in Christ and that there is nothing else new to learn. In many of his letters, he often referred to how much he would have loved to communicate a truth but he couldn’t due to the dullness or immaturity of the audience. There is more in Christ that have not been revealed to us and in us. It would take us eternity to discover the manifold wisdom of God.

Let us press on for more secrets to be made known to us. Let us engage the Spirit of God, with speaking in tongues and worship. The Church is called to reveal the manifold wisdom of God to the world and the Kingdom of Darkness (Ephesians 5:10).

Quote of the week

”That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, concerning the Word of life— the life was manifested, and we have seen, and bear witness, and declare to you that eternal life which was with the Father and was manifested to us— that which we have seen and heard we declare to you, that you also may have fellowship with us; and truly our fellowship is with the Father and with His Son Jesus Christ. And these things we write to you that your joy may be full.”
